It is really hard to understand movie critics and audiences, because this is a nice movie with an interesting premise and a not so bad script.Maybe the characters are a tad bland and nondescript but the story is entertaining enough and it kept my attention. It has a few clichés but in the end it was a good way to spend a 90 minutes or so.The special effect were good enough considering the somewhat low budget, and the story moves at a good pace.There are no confusing subplots, romance (it is a story of survival, there is no time for it) and other distractions.I give it an 8!

Sean (Emile Hirsch) and Ben (Max Minghella) are in Moscow to sell their computer software. They meet Natalie (Olivia Thirlby) and Anne (Rachael Taylor) at a nightclub. Then things go terribly wrong. The lights go out, and some strange UFOs are falling down. They turn out to be aliens that zap their victims. It becomes a run for their lives.The CG is pretty good. The Moscow setting is interesting because it's different. At least we're not blowing up the White House yet again. It's a pretty simple concept, and done fairly well. Sure it's been done countless times but I don't hold that against any movies. Almost every movie can be called derivative of something from before. The ending does need to be much bigger however. It's very well done up until then.

This was a bit of fun to watch, nothing special, like an above average sci-fi channel flick, but fun to watch nonetheless. Hasn't been a box office hit or getting much in the way of good reviews, but if basic alien invasion is your cup of tea, you will probably enjoy it too. I liked the aliens, not your usual lot, and the Moscow sets. The cast gave decent performances as well. I would have liked to see more of the invaders and would have liked a few more battle scenes, and could have enjoyed it just as well without the 3D effects. All things considered, I will add it to my collection when it's available on disc. Catch this during a matinée if you must, but you'll probably like it a whole lot more on a theater's big screen than waiting for HBO.
